Some choice quotes from the same damn community in the last few days. What the hell is going on? Guys, it is totally possible to like a pairing or character without insulting and degrading other characters. I can see how it might be hard to grasp that it's possible to write good Seifer/Quistis while not acting like Rinoa is slime, but it's called thinking critically! Everyone can do it. Wow, that's an amazing insight. I'm blown away by the keen eye this person has in evaluating characterization of one female character by tearing down other female character and people.
To bring it home, I disliked Palin a lot, but she's not "brainless". At worst, she's uneducated or ignorant, through her cultural upbringing or personal choice, which remains her personal choice. Equal rights allow her to make it and I am okay with that. Writing women off by suggesting they have nothing to offer except their feminine wiles is sexist. I'm biased: of course I love all the girls in FFVIII including their flaws, especially Rinoa, but statements like this boggle my mind. I'm also no Palin fan, but wow. Wow. As Liss says: "Individual women don't have to earn a feminist's defense from sexist attacks; it is offered because a feminist recognizes how sexism works—against the collective. As Echidne says, it "hurts all women, all little girls, all old ladies, women everywhere."
