Liar gets a new cover and Bloomsbury tells PW about how awesome they are for changing it. I am happy with caveats. "You got what you wanted and you're STILL pissed?" you're asking. "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, RENAY. What is your damage!" I have a quote for you. It's enlightening!

"We regret that our original creative direction for Liar—which was intended to symbolically reflect the narrator's complex psychological makeup—has been interpreted by some as a calculated decision to mask the character's ethnicity," Bloomsbury officials said in a statement to PW.

I am glad they changed the cover. It was the right thing to do since they ignored the author the first time around and had to be taken out back by the people with the power: us, you know, the ones who buy the books. $$$$$$ basically.

I am less than glad they are still blaming other people for not seeing their ~*excellent vision*~ that the other cover portrayed. Ugh, what cowards.

That's right, I said it, because calling them douchebags isn't enough. I am calling them cowards and more concerned about their image and their bottom line than owning their privilege and fuckups. The point was that it wasn't a calculated decision. The problem was: it was invisible, because every person involved in this decision was using their privilege to ignore the problem. Welcome to having privilege, Bloomsbury.

Thank you for changing the cover, I will happily purchase it now, but no thanks on your inability to see depth in the discussions of race and privilege beyond your own bottom line. You should go unpack some knapsacks and reflect on how much you suck at honesty, otherwise known as owning your messes. Hint: a whole fucking lot.
