So....who else is totally bummed at the fact the new owners of delicious said this: "We didn’t buy it so we can kill it,” Mr. Hurley said. “Hopefully people will understand that."

And then went and did exactly that?

No forward slashes in tags. No tag bundles. Limited to 10 tags per page. No subscriptions. No network. Tags no longer autocomplete when bookmarking. You can't see all your tags in the sidebar — I guess they think it doesn't matter because bundles are dead. My bookmarks are all out of order. There's no more bulk editing of tags.

Bookmarking is a disaster. It saves the bookmark immediately, which I find really annoying because I have the delicious tag button on my browser and sometimes accidentally hit it. I thought the update made before Yahoo! dumped delicious was ham-handed and awful, but this is outright cruel and really shows the men who purchased it really didn't try to understand the multiple types of culture on the service. The accessibility issues alone made me boggle. With the old way when I typed a tag and then spaced out it created the tag, but now I have to use my trackpad to click out and get the tag to create. I hope it's just me or a bug, because that's terrible! Because tag bundles are gone, there's nothing in the bookmark window to select from. Apparently you're not supposed to have over ten tags you can remember offhand.

It does seem to remember when you've saved a bookmark.

A fact: I would have paid for delicious as run by our Yahoo! Overloads. I would never pay for what exists now.

And lo, my fears about the newsletter came true. [community profile] ff_press is basically on indefinite hiatus because our compile script is completely broken. Even if we figure out how to fix it, the fact tag bundles are dead and you can't show them in the bookmark window any longer is a huge roadblock as long as there's also no autocomplete.

I feel like the universe made this happen in the middle of my midterms on purpose. :|

*cries and cries and cries* Renay - what have they done???

Ok, that's it. If we kidnap Shemar Moore and hand him over to Finance, do you think they'd let us buy delicious?

God, the complain email, with the comment "Frustrated by the recent changes to Delicious? Feel free to vent here."
Yeah, that really encourages me to complain and believe that you'll actually think about fix what is broken/missing. AND they took the forums away - no public complaining, either.

I hadn't thought to go over and check out the new site until I saw your post... and not only are there no more tag bundles, they're missing all my bookmarks since August 2010.

I don't know anything about anything, internet-savvy-wise, but here is hoping they either fix it or we come up with a way to fix the newsletter, because this is fucking ridiculous on their account.

I never used Delicious tags personally so I assumed it wouldn't affect me, but I hadn't thought about the implications for ff_press at all. ;___;

whyyyyyy would they do that, I don't --

It makes no sense! NO SENSE. And I don't understand what the hell is the difference between "tag bundles" and "stacks," except that apparently you can no longer see what your friends are posting unless it's in stacks, WHAT IS THIS SHIT D: D: D:

The site is essentially useless. Maybe not to a brand new user? But to everyone else - yeah, pretty much. It's just... Honestly, it's such a clusterfuck that I'm kind of stunned. This past week I was thinking "we're probably worrying over nothing, the changes will probably be minor", etc. SOMETIMES THE PARANOIA IS WELL FOUNDED. Good lord.

I figured that coherency would be a plus as well. I did post, and am thinking about a more strongly worded letter once I get home. I agree that making noise is a required next step.

If I have to try to compile without the tag bundles OR autocomplete, I will either (a) fuck up every issue with typos everywhere, making it useless, or (b) have to quit because compiling will take me 4 hours a night that I don't have, making it... useless. >:( I use both all the time - autocomplete usually, unless I couldn't remember a category ("is it Discussions and Meta or Meta and Discussions?" says my exhausted brain) so BOTH ARE REQUIRED, I WILL PASS AWAY WITHOUT THEM.

And I just kind of can't believe the relationship tag thing. Do they even understand how many of their users are fandom-based???

AUGH

I ALSO FEEL LIKE A JERK NOW, because when they bought it I was all YAY and supportive and "let's give them a chance!" NO MORE CHANCES, AVOS. ZERO CHANCES.

I was wary but optimistic! Ads, okay, no biggie. I'd rather have ads than no service at all! But this. This is not just ads. To say the least.

What did we do before delicious? I think people kept rec pages, is that right? It is like the DARK AGES

I feel like all my nagging of ad&t about bookmarks over the last year has suddenly become JUSTIFIED. You may have seen it, but Jenny has an unofficial post up asking people about what they want from ao3 bookmarks: http://jennyst.dreamwidth.org/2374.html

I still have no words. Every time I see a new entry about this pop up on my Dwircle there's ANOTHER detail they fucked up. It's like a prism of programmer/interface/customer service fail. On every level. I mean, there's the list of stuff they couldn't do in time but they launched regardless, the "tweaks" in the UI and the tagging structure, the accessibility nightmare, the loss of data, the removal of the forums, the mocking complaints email form and THEN there's the broken status page on top of the poop sundae and it's SURREAL in how bad it is.

UGGGH I am definitely in the search for a new site. DROPPING YOU LIKE A TEN TON BOULDER, AVOS. Also, I somehow managed to not be prepared at all for this shit, because, like, I dunno! I somehow just figured it would stay the same and didn't bother checking into it because I am a trusting fool.

And my anger is all entirely about my personal collection, I have no idea how you didn't actually spontaneously combust out of sheer WTFery from ff_press.

Diigo? Pinboard? I dunno, I dunno.

No idea if this will help you at all but Google bookmarks has a new Delicious import feature. It's a little hinky, so you may have to try to import multiple times and it may be like 'we've made tags non-clickable' but eventually I've managed to get it to a place where bookmarks exist there and tags with /'s are clickable so you can sort your own bookmarks. Networking isn't really up to much there though right now (basically things must be shared with you by friends and that's it).

I don't normally swear outside of porn, but FUCK IT ALL TO HELL.

I've felt guilty for a very long time to be enjoying the benefits of the hard work you and everyone does on [community profile] ff_press. But I REALLY REALLY APPRECIATED IT.

Even when I haven't been active in the community, I dip into FF_Press to find things to read and ogle and enjoy.

And you kept giving it to us! ALL THAT WORK! For free! Dangit, you deserve all kinds of awards, not grief, and not having your work taken away by this idiot service!

I wish I could fast forward 30 years to my future wealthy self, haul back $50K, and throw money at the problem until it went away, but it still wouldn't work because I don't know what we could do to replace that functionality.

It's not the end of the world, and fandom will go on, but we mourn with you, and please know, please, please know, we REALLY really appreciated all you've done.
