So....who else is totally bummed at the fact the new owners of delicious said this: "We didn’t buy it so we can kill it,” Mr. Hurley said. “Hopefully people will understand that."

And then went and did exactly that?

No forward slashes in tags. No tag bundles. Limited to 10 tags per page. No subscriptions. No network. Tags no longer autocomplete when bookmarking. You can't see all your tags in the sidebar — I guess they think it doesn't matter because bundles are dead. My bookmarks are all out of order. There's no more bulk editing of tags.

Bookmarking is a disaster. It saves the bookmark immediately, which I find really annoying because I have the delicious tag button on my browser and sometimes accidentally hit it. I thought the update made before Yahoo! dumped delicious was ham-handed and awful, but this is outright cruel and really shows the men who purchased it really didn't try to understand the multiple types of culture on the service. The accessibility issues alone made me boggle. With the old way when I typed a tag and then spaced out it created the tag, but now I have to use my trackpad to click out and get the tag to create. I hope it's just me or a bug, because that's terrible! Because tag bundles are gone, there's nothing in the bookmark window to select from. Apparently you're not supposed to have over ten tags you can remember offhand.

It does seem to remember when you've saved a bookmark.

A fact: I would have paid for delicious as run by our Yahoo! Overloads. I would never pay for what exists now.

And lo, my fears about the newsletter came true. ff_press is basically on indefinite hiatus because our compile script is completely broken. Even if we figure out how to fix it, the fact tag bundles are dead and you can't show them in the bookmark window any longer is a huge roadblock as long as there's also no autocomplete.

I feel like the universe made this happen in the middle of my midterms on purpose. :|

I know! I just don't understand. I am not a programmer or a site owner and have no context, but I don't understand why you would create a feature no one asked for, launch it, and then take away features people had used for years and years and years and act like they're supposed to be happy about it. They KNEW, too, because they have a passive aggressive "complain!!!" email in the contact section. Stay classy, AVOS!

reALLY. How does that make sense at energizing your current userbase to help bring in new users? I was totally pushing for friends to sign up and now I won't bother, and I'm honestly considering breaking camp (once the fervor is over and I can export) and heading to pinboard, which I resisted because I was hopeful.

I have no clue what will happen to the newsletters, either. :( At this point, I'm willing to do anything to get my forward slashes back, even commit hardcore felonies. I AM SO DEPRESSED I AM CONSIDERING HATE MAIL. :( :( What have you done to me, AVOS?

I think they expected some of that; they provided a special email (migration@avos.com) for people with problems like that. It seems to be your best bet.

It really is. Even if we can fix it for compile purposes (Zach says you can make it work if you change the URL, but you're limited to 20 items) it still doesn't come close to the bookmarking issues. In the old version, we had autocomplete and bundles right there under the text fields. Now: none of that. Imagine bookmarking for the newsletter without one or both of those. I know I sometimes used both, certainly. I know Ira uses nothing but the bundles.

Not even to mention and the fact that EVERY relationship tag ff_press has is broken because / doesn't work and there's no bulk edit available for us to update them.

Well, the programmer who builds our script says it's fixable but it's limited to 20 links (before we were allowed 100). Every time there's a bright spot it's like the people who designed this trainwreck find another way to stick it to us. :(

I am so torn. I am not sure what to do. We have at least 1000 subscribers who now won't have a service. Not that I think ff_press is the be-all, end-all of FF news sites, but we tried so hard to be thorough and inclusive. That's just gone now.

I don't know if it's even useful to a new user, because delicious stands for a certain type of interaction. I would love to ask a new user, but i have a distinct feeling that they're not going to have to worry about new users. The old users that are rending their clothing in agony will be loud enough to warn them away. Which is another reason I have no IDEA that they were thinking. You don't alienate your current userbase, you support them and involve them so they help build your service. This seems so basic. :(

If I have to try to compile without the tag bundles OR autocomplete, I will either (a) fuck up every issue with typos everywhere, making it useless, or (b) have to quit because compiling will take me 4 hours a night that I don't have, making it... useless. >:( I use both all the time - autocomplete usually, unless I couldn't remember a category ("is it Discussions and Meta or Meta and Discussions?" says my exhausted brain) so BOTH ARE REQUIRED, I WILL PASS AWAY WITHOUT THEM.

No idea if this will help you at all but Google bookmarks has a new Delicious import feature. It's a little hinky, so you may have to try to import multiple times and it may be like 'we've made tags non-clickable' but eventually I've managed to get it to a place where bookmarks exist there and tags with /'s are clickable so you can sort your own bookmarks. Networking isn't really up to much there though right now (basically things must be shared with you by friends and that's it).

I've felt guilty for a very long time to be enjoying the benefits of the hard work you and everyone does on ff_press. But I REALLY REALLY APPRECIATED IT.

Even when I haven't been active in the community, I dip into FF_Press to find things to read and ogle and enjoy.

And you kept giving it to us! ALL THAT WORK! For free! Dangit, you deserve all kinds of awards, not grief, and not having your work taken away by this idiot service!

I wish I could fast forward 30 years to my future wealthy self, haul back $50K, and throw money at the problem until it went away, but it still wouldn't work because I don't know what we could do to replace that functionality.

It's not the end of the world, and fandom will go on, but we mourn with you, and please know, please, please know, we REALLY really appreciated all you've done.
